Ph.D. Regalia Attire

The University of Missouri doctoral regalia gown is made of the highest quality black polyester crepe with double-bell sleeves. The eight-sided cap is made of our finest black plush velvet, which is recognized worldwide as the industry standard. A silk tassel is included with the cap. MU’s doctoral hood is constructed of black polyester crepe and plush, royal blue velvet, which denotes the Ph.D. The hood is lined with luminous satin in blue and gold.

 

 

Quick History of Mizzou

The University of Missouri is the largest public university of the state and the first higher education public institution west of the Mississippi River. It is designated as a “Doctoral/Research Extensive” university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and is also a member of Association of American Universities. MU founded one of the first schools of journalism and operates the only university-owned TV network. The university consists of 7 colleges, 11 schools and offers more than 250 majors.

Mascot

Truman the Tiger is MU’s official mascot, an anthropomorphic Bengal tiger. He has won the nation’s ‘Best Mascot” multiple times and is named after U.S. President Harry Truman.

Notable Rankings

More than 40% of MU degrees awarded last year were in science, engineering, mathematics, technology, and health fields. Among the state’s public universities, MU grants 23% of master’s degrees and 62% of doctoral degrees.
