When in stock, your regalia will be shipped within 24-48 hours. In California, your regalia will arrive within 2 business days of being shipped. Shipping to other states will be approximately 3-6 business day. We provide expedited shipping for an additional fee. You will be presented with options during checkout or you can view them in our Shipping Page.

For size exchanges, CAPGOWN will ship the exchange item(s) and include a free return label to return the item(s) back. Each order is allowed up to two exchanges with free shipping.

Instructions to exchange your regalia

Step 1.  Please contact support@capgown.com to inform us of your exchange with the reason for the return. We will provide a return label (if applicable) as well as additional instructions if needed.

Step 2.  Pack up the item in a box and use the return label provided or ship via your preferred ship company with a tracking number (such as USPS, UPS or FEDEX). Items must be sent to:

The hood is worn behind the shoulders and back, with the hood's velvet portion under the chin, making the colorful side visible.

If your hood comes with a square flap (yellow and blue color) at the bottom end, the flap needs to be pushed inside the tail of the hood.

There is a loop at the front end of the hood that attaches to the button inside the gown. This prevents the hood from pulling back and choking you. The other loop on the hood attaches to the button on the hood.

The doctoral tassel is always worn to the left throughout the ceremony.

First the similarities: The silk and gold bullion tassels are identically shaped (you can see the bulbous shape in the pictures below), and both are produced from fine material. The gold bullion tassel has greater shine and is hand-made, therefore it is more expensive.

The choice of which tassel to select is a personal preference. Some prefer the silk, some like the metallic gold bullion. Silk tassel comes standard on all caps. Gold bullion upgrades are $20 per tam.

Our gown design is exactly the same as the one at the university bookstore. Both CAPGOWN and the university bookstore use the official design set by the American Council on Education, so the overall look is the same. While the colors are very similar, there might be a slight difference in shade. The main difference lies in the materials used. We use polyester crepe for the body of the gown, which many of our customers prefer over the material sold at the bookstore. Additionally, the velvet we use is of higher quality; it is softer and feels better. Hundreds of reviewers have mentioned that CAPGOWN regalia is the way to go.

To clean your regalia, it is important to dry clean it only. You can also air dry it to keep it fresh. Avoid ironing your regalia, as this may damage the velvet. Instead, use a steamer or hang the gown to remove wrinkles.

We also recommend using a lint roller to remove any lint.

When storing your regalia, use the garment bag provided.

Due to the style of regalia, gowns are designed to be baggy and free-flowing. If you’ve taken all the measurements and find yourself between sizes, we recommend sizing down. However, if you find that the gown is too small or too big when you receive your regalia, don’t worry! We offer free sizing exchanges.

All three of our cap sizes have adjustable velcro for the best fit. Our caps tend to run a little small, so if you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up. If the cap does not fit when you receive it, don’t worry—we offer free sizing exchanges!

Your regalia rental will arrive at least 7 days prior to the ceremony date specified in your order. Once your rental order has been shipped, you will receive a shipping confirmation with tracking information.

You have 7 days from the ceremony date specified in your order to return the rental regalia. We will send you two reminders within this period to ensure you don’t forget. We include return instructions and a free return label to make returning the rental regalia simple and free!

We provide a return label for you to send back the rental in the package it was delivered in.

IMPORTANT: Please do not return your regalia at the school or anywhere else. The rental regalia must be sent back using the return slip we provided. If you can’t locate the return label, contact us, and our customer service team will email you a new label.

Rental shipping is free both ways! We include a shipping label for you to send back the rental regalia free of charge.

You have a choice of purchasing any item(s) that you want to keep. This includes the gown, tam, and/or hood. Just go to our Rental Keeper to make your selection!
