Ph.D. Regalia Attire

The University of California Doctoral Gown is in UC Blue with gold piping. The Doctoral Hood has a UC Blue velvet trim with UC Blue and Gold lining. The cap comes with a gold silky tassel but can be upgraded to a gold bullion tassel (Ph.D. Only).

Quick History of UCLA

UCLA was the first southern branch of the University of California schools, making it the second oldest UC campus. In 1919, the school was originally just considered an off-site branch of UC Berkeley. However, by 1972 the public university established itself as an individual and official University of California. UCLA is located in the Westwood District of Los Angeles, California and its 419-acre campus is known for its library system and its always-growing research facilities.

Mascot

Students refer to themselves as the Bruins and are represented by brown bear mascots, Joe and Josephine Bruin. UCLA used to use live bears as mascots and in 1924, one of them was named Joe Bruin. Although the mascots changed through constant re-designs, the mascot’s name remained the same.

Notable Rankings

UCLA offers more than 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines. The university is known for its strong pre-medical programs and supplies the most undergraduate applicants to medical schools in the nation. They rank in the global top ten for Mathematics and Computer science. In 2016, it was ranked first among online graduate engineering programs. UCLA has won more than 126 national sports championships and is known for its famous rivalry with the private university USC.
