Our family business started in 1998 on the premise that high-quality, well made doctoral regalia should be affordable for all graduates.

We got our start when my uncle was getting his Ph.D. from Stanford in 1998 and realized how expensive regalia sets were.

He turned to his sister, my aunt, who had more than 25 years of experience in the textile and garment industry. Seeing a greater need for affordable but high-quality regalia, they launched CAPGOWN at Stanford University, in cooperation with the ASSU Stanford Store.

Prior to CAPGOWN, such regalia had been prohibitively expensive for most new graduates. Grads buying through the bookstore would pay high prices because there are three to four middle men.

In 2016, I started to work with my uncle, Albert, and aunt, Nora, to learn the business and eventually took over.

We slowly expanded our high quality regalia to other Universities and today we proudly serve the graduate communities from the most distinguished universities in the world.
